Rachel Lily Rosenbloom and Don't You Ever Forget It! (1973)

Original Playbill:

Rachael Lily Rosenbloom (And Don't You Ever Forget It) is a musical with a book by Paul Jabara, music by Paul Jabara, and lyrics by Paul Jabara.

The story revolves around the adventures of the title character (whose name carries the "a" dropped by Barbra Streisand and her rise to fame from a Brooklyn fish market to a Hollywood gossip columnist.

The songs are a mix of disco and show tunes.

The Broadway production began previews on November 26, 1973 and within days, it was obvious that the show needed more work and wasn’t ready for Broadway. On December 1, notice in the newspapers announced the show would be closing that night, prior to its official opening.

The demand for tickets was immediate. When the curtain went up that night, the cast was facing a sold-out house. The musical had a group of fans who had followed its evolution from the beginning and already had seen it several times in previews.

In scattered pockets throughout the house, groups of adoring theatergoers sang along with the very enjoyable musical numbers and gave standing ovations at the end of most of them."

The cast included Paul Jabara, Ellen Greene (as Rachael), Wayne Cilento. Anita Morris, Thommie Walsh, and _André DeShields.

Rachael Lily Rosenbloom (And Don't You Ever Forget It) was a labor of love written by Jabara when he was he was in his early twenties. It was his dream to one day bring "Rachel" back to Broadway, and had he lived, he would certainly would have done so.
